Polak, Frank
Frank grew up in Honolulu Hawaii where he did undergraduate degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Between surfing, playing tennis and training in Aikido, he found enough time to graduate with an honours in soviet and central asian history. Frank considered a number of law schools on the mainland but found that the climate in BC to be more temporate than the east coast of the United States and that Vancouver reminded him a little of Honolulu. Frank graduated from UBC law school and took some time off to train in aikido both in BC and in Japan. Frank taught Aikido at UBC. Frank then moved to Toronto, finished his articling, was called to the bar of Upper Canada in 1997. Frank then worked with a leading criminal defence firm and later with a boutique downtown Toronto firm specializing in corporate and securities litigation. In 2001 Frank moved to Vancouver again to work with the Department of Justice Canada as a Federal Prosecutor for approximately 5 years. Frank then moved to Kelowna in 2006 and began work with Doak Shirreff where he is, other than regular civil files, primarily responsible for the Federal Prosecution Agency work.
Frank’s interests include koryu (classical) forms of Japanese swordsmanship. Frank has taught Aikido in Toronto, Vancouver and now, on occasion, in Kelowna and is interested in most forms of martial arts whether Asian or European.
Frank is married to his wife Christine who works as an occupational therapist both in the community and with Interior Health in Kelowna.
