Put The Phone Away – We Mean It!
How many times have you gone to reach for your phone while driving? Waiting for that text or email with your phone right beside you and being more concerned about what it says rather than what’s in front of you. It’s time to stop and put the phone down and start paying attention.
The BC Coalition to End Distracted Driving and its members have launched the ‘Not Worth It’ campaign. This initiative is to encourage British Columbians to commit to being present while driving and to put the phone down. No matter how funny that text might be or how urgent it may seem, distracting yourself from the wheel is simply Not Worth It.
Distracted driving not only endangers yourself, but everyone else on the road. Think of your mother, your father, your sister or brother or any other loved one in your life. You wouldn’t let them drink and drive for the sake of putting their lives and other’s lives in danger. The same should go for texting and driving or any sort of distracted driving. Distracted driving kills, and now is the time to help prevent it. Taking part in the Not Worth It initiative is your chance to learn more about the devastating impacts that distracted driving causes and provides a forum to share stories about experiences.
Every year dozens of loved ones are injured or killed as a result of distracted driving. Distracted Driving is now responsible for more vehicle deaths than impaired driving and is Not Worth It.
It’s time to stand up for your life and for the lives of everyone around you. Spread the word to your friends, family and colleagues and be the voice that doesn’t tolerate distracted driving. After all, it’s not worth risking a life.
